Cuttack: The Akshay Trutiya festival was observed today with special worship, Sankirtana and felicitation of the farmers at the first farmers’ temple of Odisha in Manijari village in Mahanga area of Cuttack district.
The society depends on farmers for food but often they are neglected. Believing on this notion, some people of Manijori village led by a young social worker Pratap Sahu established a farmers’ temple in the year 2005. The temple is dedicated to the farmers.
Every year Akshay Trutiya is observed at this temple with much fanfare while hundreds of farmers participate in the function. They visit here along with their cattle. Even many farmers are felicitated on Akshay Trutiya. Also, biggies including politicians and senior officers of the Agricultural Department are invited to this festival. This year the Akshay Trutiya was celebrated here with public participation.
Two years back on the occasion of Akshay Trutiya a ploughing competition had been organised.
