Elephant Electrocuted In Odisha’s Bargarh

Bargarh: A wild elephant allegedly died of electrocution near Gangei village under Ambhabona block of the district today.

As per reports, locals first spotted the body of the elephant in a farmland and immediately informed the forest officials. “A post-mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death of the elephant. We have also started an investigation to ascertain the allegations of electrocution,” said a forest official.  

Death of elephants has emerged as a major concern for forest officials and animal activists as well. As per official statistics, as many as 732 elephants died in a decade between 2009-10 and 2018-19 in Odisha while 87 elephants have died in 2018-19, the highest in the last 10 years.
