ASI suspended for ‘thrashing’ woman in Police Station

Sambalpur: Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sambalpur district on Wednesday suspended an assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Rengali police station in the district for allegedly thrashing a woman inside the police station.

The suspended police officer has been identified as Dronacharya Sahu.

According to reports, Sahu had thrashed a woman inside the police station in September last year. However, he was suspended after a video clip, which was filmed by some unknown sources, was widely circulated on social media and aired on television news channels.

According to sources, police picked up the victim woman, who lives in a nearby slum, on the pretext of dropping her at home. But they took her to the police station. When the woman inquired about the purpose of bringing her to the police station, the ASI thrashed her in front of the others present in the police station.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
