Ailing tusker dies under treatment in Cuttack

Cuttack: The sick tusker which was undergoing treatment in Choudwar area of Odisha’s Cuttack district after being rescued from Dalijoda Forest Range yesterday succumbed on Sunday.

A team of doctors from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) which was treating the elephant declared it dead at around 9 am this morning. The tusker died due to a mouth infection informed sources.

Notably, the male tusker had been spotted in a farmland near Haladibasanta village under Dalijoda Forest Range yesterday by some locals. He was unable to move on his own due to some injury believe to be inflicted by other elephants.

While a veterinary doctors from Tangi treated the tusker immediately after his rescue, experts from OUAT took over the task from them later due to deteriorating condition.
