Bhadrak: At least three rooms of a family were gutted and a cow was burnt alive in a massive fire which broke out in Orali village under Tihidi block in the district last night.
Sparks erupted at one Pagal Sahoo’s home in the village late in the night while all his family members were asleep. The blaze which spread very rapidly engulfed at least three rooms in the house along with a cattle shed before the family could wake up and launch firefighting efforts.
While a cow was charred to death inside the burning cattle shed and could not be rescued during the mishap, five other cattle sustained critical burn injury.
The fire was brought under control following a Herculean effort by the victim family and the villagers later in the night.
Police have reached the spot and started an investigation to find out the cause behind the fire.
