21 hurt during ‘Diwali’ revelry in separate incidents in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Over dozen of people sustained burn injuries while bursting fire crackers across the state during ‘Diwali’ celebration last night. However no death has been reported during the festival of light this year.

To start with state capital Bhubaneswar, at least six persons were injured due to their negligence and lack of safety precautions in separate incidents. The injured were taken to hospitals in the city where special arrangements for Diwali-related mishaps had been made.

In Balasore as many as seven persons were left with burn injuries during Diwali revelry. The injured have been identified as Manoranjan Das of Rasalpur, Kashi Biswanath Pradhan of Ranipatna, Sanyasi Jena of Basta, Sanjay Dey of Motiganj and three others. All the victims sustained burn injury on their palm, finger and face and were rushed to the district headquarters hospital.

Similarly, two youths, one each from Aska and Chopra village Bhanjanagar in Ganjam while bursting firecrackers. Fiver more suffered burn injuries in Udala of Mayurbhanj district later in separate incidents due to non-adherence the guidelines set by the administration.

In Panikoili of Nuapada, a minor boy sustained critical burn injury and was taken to SCB Medical in Cuttack.
