Khurda: Around 300 specially-abled destitute women, from different parts of the country living in a shelter home named ‘Mission Ashra’, which is located in Jaila Industrial, celebrated the festival of lights Diwali with great enthusiasm and fervor in Odisha.

The authorities of the ‘Mission Ashra’ organized a special event with music, dance, and crackers with an aim to make its inmates feel belonged and not left out in the shelter home while the entire world is in festive mood.  A dinner party was also organized on the occasion.

People of different walks of life also attended the special programme whose theme was Ail Siya Aur Diwali-2018.

For the last 16 years, the shelter home had been rescuing women who were homeless and provides integrated support to them from rescue, treatment, counseling to final rehabilitation in the family and larger community.

The shelter home rescued the women either from the streets or with the help of police.

“I landed here with the help of police. There are many destitute women like me here. But the authorities of the ‘Mission Ashra’ are taking care of us all well. They provide food, shelter, clothes, and counseling,” said Meena Sabari, an inmate of the center.

“We celebrate all the festivals here with great enthusiasm and fervor. We burst crackers, light lamps, distribute sweets, wear new clothes while celebrating Diwali every year,” she added.
