Haryana appellate authority for advance ruling (AAAR) recently stated that Pizza toppings are not Pizza, hence, will attract a higher levy.
After the news broke, #Pizza booked a spot on Twitter and Twitteratis filled the platform with funny memes.
According to the reports, AAAR has stated that 18 per cent of GST should be levied on the pizza topping since the topping is not a pizza.
Different restaurants has set different GST rates on pizzas served in the eatery and the dish delivered at home. However, now they are up for applying different tax rates for pizza base and pizza toppings. The tax set on a pizza is based on the preparation and method of selling of the particular food item. So, on buying and eating a pizza at a restaurant, the customer will need to pay only five per cent GST. But, if a pizza is delivered home, it attracts 18 percent GST. The GST rate on pizza base, which is bought separately, is 12 per cent.
Although, the new set of rules regarding the tax rates on pizza left the netizens confused. Upset by the news, Twitter users expressed their sadness with funny memes. One user even asked “Oregano toh free rahega na? (Atleast the oregano will be free right?)”
