Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a youth was killed on the spot after a private bus ran over him at Master Canteen Square here today.
The accident took place when the bus named Kamadhenu (OR-07S-1447) mowed down the youth while he was going on a bike at around 1 pm.
The deceased youth has been identified as Ratnakar Khatua of Kantilo in Nayagarh district. He was working in a farmhouse situated in the Tankapani area of the state capital city.
Tension ran high in the area as irate locals ransacked the bus demanding the arrest of the driver of the vehicle.
On being informed, Commissionerate Police reached the spot and pacified the angry locals with the assurance of action against the accused. They sent the youth’s body to the Capital Hospital for post-mortem. Besides, the cops also have seized the bus and detained its driver for questioning.
Sources at the police said that the owner of the bus, a resident of Berhampur, has also been summoned for interrogation.
