Puri: A woman has been shot with bullets during an extortion bid at ITI square Narendrakona area of Puri and has sustained critical injuries late on Tuesday night. The injured woman has been identified as Sakuntala Sahu.
Reportedly, the incident occurred while she was trying to save her husband when bullets were being fired by two bike-borne miscreants. One among the miscreants have been identified as Biju Behera. The accused miscreants managed to escape from the spot after firing bullets at the woman.
On getting the information, she was rushed to the District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) in Puri and later was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Earlier, complaints of extortion threats were also registered by from Sakuntala at Kumbharpada police station.
The cops have initiated a further investigation into the matter.
