Two youth from Cuttack fall prey to Bitcoin fraud, lose Rs 43 lakh

Cuttack: Two young IT professionals from Cuttack lost Rs 43 lakh after falling prey to Bitcoin fraud. The Cuttack Commissionerate’s cyber Police department has initiated an investigation into the matter, registering two cases on fraud activity.

The two Cuttack engineers had taken a personal loan from a bank and invested on a fraud Bitcoin website. Both of them had received a WhatsApp message, approximately a month ago. They message promised them money in return for a hotel review. Intrigued, they both agreed and and were then added to a Telegram group.

They used to receive instruction on the group itself. They were informed that there would be monetary compensation for each task completed. However, they were asked to make an advance payment before initiating any task. They performed a total of 24 tasks, but never received any of the promised money.

Realizing that they had been deceived, the two Cuttack engineers lodged a complaint at the Cuttack Cyber police station.
