The lift in SCB New Medicine Department has remained defunct for five consecutive days, forcing attendants to carry patients through stairs.

Cuttack: The patients of Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack seem to be always facing some problems. Sometimes there is no electricity in the hospital or sometimes there is no water supply and this time the lift of the New Medicine Department building has stopped working and remains to be repaired even after five days.

According to sources, the lift in the New Medicine Department building has remained defunct for five consecutive days. Due to this, the patients are being carried in a dangerous state on the stretcher to the third floor on the stairs.

Though some patients, who can stand, take the small doctors’ elevator, the patients on stretchers are suffering and have to be carried dangerously on the stairs.

Though the patients and their attendants have complained about the problem to the hospital authorities. No hospital staff or senior management have made any comment towards their plight.

The New Medicine Department in SCB has 4 floors. Thousands of patients visiting the department are facing the problem daily. Moreover, the patients attendants have revealed that the lift are defunct for the last eight days.

However, the SCB authorities have said that this is not true. The lift of the New Medicine department is not working for only three days, while the Causality lift is defunct from last evening. The machinery required for the repair of the lifts have not been procured yet so the two lifts have remained non-functional. The problem will be solved by tomorrow evening.
