PM Modi to inaugurate second Vande Bharat Express of Odisha from Puri to Rourkela today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the second Vande Bharat Express train of Odisha today that is on September 24, 2023. Odisha’s second Vande Bharat Express train will run on the Puri-Rourkela-Puri route. According to a press release by South Eastern Railway, the train will be flagged off by the Prime Minister virtually along with nine other Vande Bharat Express trains across the country.

Puri-Rourkela Vande Bharat Express

This 2nd Vande Bharat Express will connect the holy city of Puri with the Steel City Rourkela, which is also called as the Industrial Capital of Odisha. It will move via Bhubaneswar, Industrial Area at Angul and Jharsuguda enroute. This premium service will offer the fastest rail connectivity between Puri-Rourkela.

The Vande Bharat Express will run six days a week except Saturday. It will cover the distance of 505 kms from Puri to Rourkela in just 7 hours and 45 minutes. Train No.20836 Puri-Rourkela Vande Bharat Express will depart Puri at 05.00 hrs and will reach Rourkela at 12:45 hrs on same day. In return direction, 20835 Rourkela- Puri Vande Bharat Express will depart Rourkela at 14:10 hrs and will reach Puri at 21.40 hrs on same day. The train will stop at Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Talcher Road, Angul, Rairakhol, Sambalpur City and Jharsuguda enroute.

This Vande Bharat service will reduce the average travel time from Puri–Rourkela as compared to Puri-Yog Nagari Rishikesh Express which takes 11.50 hours and Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express which takes 10.25 hours, which is the fastest train in this route.

With the introduction of the train, the pilgrims, traders, students and tourists will be greatly benefited as they can quickly travel between Puri and Rourkela. The prime minister had flagged off Odisha’s first Vande Bharat Express from Puri to Howrah in the virtual mode in May this year. It is noteworthy to mention that the Howrah-Puri Vande Bharat is the first semi-high speed train in the Eastern state of India.
