Angul: Hours after seizing Rs 24 lakh from his possession, the Odisha vigilance sleuths arrested Odisha Motor Vehicle Department (OMVD) Traffic Inspector Jitendra Kumar Behera and forward him to the court.
Acting on a tip-off, the anti-corruption team intercepted the OMVD Traffic Inspector at Trinath Bazar of Balianta area in Bhubaneswar while he was traveling in his car bearing Regd No OD 33T 3839 from Talcher to Astarang and recovered cash to the tune of Rs 11,15,470 from the vehicle.
The vigilance officers seized the cash after Behera could not give satisfactory explanation about the money. Later, the officials conducted house search at his rented house in Talcher and native house at Astarang from DA angle. While cash of Rs 3,08,750 and 336 gm gold was recovered from his rented house at Talcher, Rs 10 Lakhs was seized from his own house at Astarang. With this, approximately a cash to the tune of Rs 24.24 Lakh was seized from his possession.
Searches were also carried out at the house of his brother Krushna Chandra Behera in Paradip.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No.01 dt.11.01.2024 U/s 7(a)/13(2) r/w 13(1)(b) Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against Behera and further probe is underway.
