Odisha teacher’s body agrees to call-off agitation

Bhubaneswar: The agitating teachers on Thursday decided to call-off their strike after getting a positive assurance from the School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra.

Rajesh Mohanty, President of the teachers’ body while speaking to the reporters informed that the School and Mass Education Minister has given them assurance to look into their matter by November 30.

Earlier today, Patra had requested the teachers to cease their strike assuring that a Department meeting will be held on November 13 and a high-level meeting on November 17 to discuss the teachers’ issue. Later, a final decision would be taken after a discussion with the Finance Department.

Thousands of teachers under the banner of two teachers’ associations – Primary Teachers’ Association covered under new pension scheme (contributory pension scheme) and Odisha Siksha Sahayak Sangha, despite restriction by the state government to hold demonstration, had begun their protest at Lower PMG demanding fulfillment of their three-charter of demands including appointment of the teachers as junior teachers with a Grade Pay of Rs. 2800.

The agitating women teachers reportedly observed the Manabasa GuruBar Puja on the road today.
