Odisha continues to grapple with severe heatwave, Balasore records highest with 41.4 degrees at 11.30 am

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been grappling with severe heatwave condition for a few days now. As per data given by the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Balasore of the state recorded the highest temperature at 11.30 am with 41.6 degrees Celsius.

Balasore has been followed by Keonjhar, where the temperature is recorded to be 41 degrees. Meanwhile, the capital city of Bhubaneswar is sizzling with 40.4 degrees presently.

For today (April 30), Red warning has been issued for districts including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda and Jajpur.

Likewise, orange heatwave alert has been issued for places including Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput.

Temperature of different places at 11.30 am: 

  • Balasore: 41.4°C
  • Keonjhar: 41°C
  • Bhubaneswar: 40.4°C
  • Jharsuguda: 39.8°C
  • Hirakud: 39°C
  • Rourkela: 39°C
  • Sambalpur: 38.6°C
  • Chandbali: 38.2°C
  • Puri: 33.8°C
  • Gopalpur: 33.2°C
  • Paradip: 33°C

Keeping weather condition in mind, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar has issued following precautionary measures:

  • Drink sufficient water/ORS to keep yourself hydrated, even if not thirsty.
  • Avoid/reschedule heavy work and heat exposure during peak hot hours (12.00PM – 04.00 PM)
  • Stand in shades and covered areas.
  • Vulnerable people (Children, Older and Sick) to avoid heat exposure.
  • Wear light colour cotton clothes.
  • Cover your head, use a cloth, hat or umbrella.
