Odia Martyr Ajit Sahoo To Be Cremated At His Native Village Today
Dhenkanal: The mortal remains of Odia jawan Ajit Kumar Sahoo, who was martyred in an IED blast in Jammu and Kashmir on June 17, will be cremated with full state honour at his native village Badasuanla in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today.
The body of Sahoo arrived at Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport around 1.30 am on a special flight. Later, it was taken to the 120 Infantry Battalion, where Army officials and jawans offered a Guard of Honour to the martyr.
Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal and prominent leaders like Prafulla Mallick, Ranendra Pratap Swain, Ashok Panda and Anant Narayan Jena paid homage to the martyred jawan.
Sahoo’s mortal remains were later taken to Dhenkanal and kept at the mini stadium, where district collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, the SP, and other senior officials paid their tributes.
After a Guard of Honour, the body was taken in a procession to Badasuanla village for cremation.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced to provide an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the martyr’s family.
CM Naveen also took the Twitter route to condole the demise of Sahoo, saying “Salute to the supreme sacrifice of the brave soldier; my thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family.”
