Jumbo dies after being hit by freight train in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: Adding to the growing jumbo deaths in the State, a female elephant was killed after being hit by a train in Kuanriapal village under Sadar Forest Range in Dhenkanal today.

As per the report, a herd of wild elephants comprising of pachyderms of different age groups had sneaked into the village last night in search of food. While returning and crossing the railway track near Kuanriapal at around 6 AM this morning the victim female jumbo got separated from the herd and later got hit by a freight train.

Some locals spotted the carcass in the morning and called up forest officials who seized it and sent for autopsy.
