MV Act: Odisha to enforce new traffic rules strictly from Dec 1

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday said it would strictly implement the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 from December 1.

State Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera said the amended Motor Vehicles Act will be implemented strictly for traffic regulations.

Earlier today, Behera distributed chocolates and flowers to the commuters at NALCO Chhak here to spread awareness on road safety and traffic rules.

Notably, the State government had relaxed implementation of the new traffic rules for three months few days after implementation of the Act on September 1.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had directed a relaxation on traffic enforcement for a period of three months and asked the people to keep their vehicle documents including Driving License ready within the period.

The Transport Minister, while replying to a question in the State Assembly yesterday, informed that a little over Rs 1 crore has been collected as fine from traffic rule violators across the state following the implementation of the new MV Act.
