Odisha Collected Rs 1 Crore In September And October As Penalty Under Amended MV Act

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has collected penalty worth around Rs 1 crore from traffic violators between September 1 and November 1 after the implementation of the amended Motor Vehicles (MV) Act which came to effect on September 1.

This was informed by the state transport minister Padmanabh Behera in reply to a question in the state assembly today.

The minister informed that Rs 46,00,850 penalty was collected from 5,317 persons for driving without driving license (DL) while Rs 13,79,700 was collected from 2,111 persons for driving without insurance and Rs 38,16,110 from 1,177 vehicle owners for not having pollution certificates. He also replied that as many as 490 people were penalized for drunken driving and Rs 7, 38,100 was collected as fine.

The minister also replied that the number of accidents in the state in the month of September has decreased as compared to last year. Behera said that as many as 844 accidents took place in September 2018 which deceased to 704 in September this year.
