Balasore: Tension ran high in OT Road area in Balasore town here last night after a group of bike-borne miscreants opened fire at a newly-opened posh hotel and fled away.
The incident took place at the Hotel Zaika International which is located close to the Tamulia level crossing. The hotel was inaugurated yesterday.
‘A group of unidentified men came on a bike and started firing at the hotel indiscriminately. While the incident took place at around 8 PM nobody was hurt in the firing. However, some of the glass partitions in the hotel were struck with the bullets and got damaged,” said Sudarshan Pradhan, manager of the hotel, who was present at the spot at the time of attack.
At the same time Pradhan has also suspected the hand of a local gangster named Jajan Panigrahi in the incident.
“An unidentified person called me up at around 11 AM yesterday and demanded an unspecified amount of protection money for the new hotel, which I didn’t take seriously. He cited the name of one local gangster Jajan Panigrahi. The attack might have link to that phone call,” added Pradhan.
Balasore Sadar Police has reached the spot and examining the CCTV footage available with the hotel to reach the attackers.
