Minor girl misbehaved by cop in Srimandir, case lodged

Puri:  Within 24-hours of ending of an impasse at Srimandir over servitor- cop face-off, a minor girl was allegedly misbehaved by a police official on its premise today.

As per a complaint filed by the family of the victim at Singhadwara Police Station, she was offering prayers to the deities near the ‘Bahara Katha’ when the incident took place. A cop deployed on duty inside the temple reached near her and misbehaved.

While the family of the victim has demanded for justice in the incident, Puri SP has assured action against anybody found guilty in the incident.

Notably, temple rituals were disrupted for almost 12 hours yesterday, after servitors resorted to cease work demanding action against a cop who allegedly attacked Bhawani Shankar Mohapatra of Bhitarichha servitor group. The servitor was attacked a day earlier, over allegedly pressing the accused cop to allow three Bengali tourists into the temple, a day earlier.

The impasse ended in the afternoon today following a dialogue between temple administration and servitors.
