Maoist deny Koraput GangrapeKopraput: While the police are still clueless about the accused of ninth class girl student rape case of Sorisapadar village in the district, Maoists on Saturday claimed that they had no role in the crime through an audio tape to media.

The audio tape released on behalf of banned outfit CPI (Maoist) and issued in the name of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) spokesperson Jagabandhu denounced the act and called for a Koraput bandh on October 16.

“We are no way involved in the incident. We never do such kind of barbaric act. We are being falsely implicated in the case. We support the people in the protest and will observe a bandh in Koraput district on October 16,” said Jagabandhu in the audio tape.

The Maoist spokesperson also alleged that the security personnel, who are engaged in  anti-Maoist operation in the district, have been  involved in large scale atrocities on innocent villagers in the region.

On the other hand, Koraput district Congress unit also called for a 7 hour bandh which coincides with the Maoist bandh call. The Congress party would observe a bandh from 6am-1pm on Monday.

“Normal life would be brought to a standstill from Narayanpatna to Borigumma and Baipariguda to Dasamantpur in Koraput on Monday and two MLAs would supervise it along with thousands of party workers. Laxmipur and Kotpad MLAs have been communicated for it and we appeal people to extend their support to the bandh for the dignity of the district,” said senior Congress leader  and Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati.

A class IX class student of Sorisapadar village under Potangi police limits in Koraput district was gang raped allegedly by four armed security personnel while returning from the Kunduli Haat (market) on Tuesday. The incident had sparked off public outcry.
