Manas Swain murder case: Sarmistha Rout, 3 others on 5-day remand from today

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch will take the web portal editor and the prime cussed Sarmistha Rout along with three others on a five-day remand, in relation with cameraman Manas Swain’s murder case, from today.

Reportedly,  Chandbali Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court permitted the Crime Branch to take Sarmistha Rout, her associate Jhuna Bhoi, former I&PR Director Niranjan Sethi, and Ranjan Nayak, proprietor of Raj Communication of Khandagiri, on a five-day remand.

The remand period will end on April 5, 2022. During this period of time, the Crime Branch team is likely to interrogate Sarmistha Rout and Niranjan Sethi face to face.

Sarmistha Rout and Jhuna Bhoi were arrested by the joint teams of Bhadrak Police and Crime Branch from the Nalanga area of Bhadrak district earlier today. Both of them were produced before the Court of JMFC Chandbali later.

Besides, Sethi was was arrested on March 21 as the evidence that was collected proved the involvement of the officer in this murder case. He was said to be the mastermind behind the crime.

Notably, Manas Swain was working as the cameraman of the web channel owned by Sarmistha. His family members filed a missing report with Chandbali police on February 14, following which a case under sections 373 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered and an investigation was initiated.
