Keonjhar: 5 get death sentence in sensational Ram Chandra Behera murder case

Keonjhar: Five people, who were convicted in the sensational Ram Chandra Behera murder case, have been awarded death sentence by the court of Additional District & Sessions Judge in Anandapur of Keonjhar district today.

The court reportedly awarded them death sentence based on the statements of 53 witnesses. They have been identified as Sanjit Prusty, Ajit Prusty, Arun Prusty, Alekh Prusty, and Dola Boitei.

Ram Chandra Behera, the former MLA candidate of Ghasipura constituency and ex-chairman of Anandpur block was scheduled to join BJD with thousands of his supporters on March 26, 2019 right before the 2019 elections. However, the convicts reportedly called him from his house at Dhakotha village and chopped off his hands after killing him at around 10 PM on March 25, 2019.

After killing Ram Chandra, the convicts held a rally in the village with his severed hands. Besides, they consumed the flesh of the severed hands, a video of which also had gone viral.

Based on the complaint of the family members, police registered a case under Sections 302, 120B, 201 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, Case No. 42/19 and investigated the crime.

In course of the probe, cops arrested 11 people. However, chargesheet was framed against six people including a juvenile. After convicting them earlier for the heinous crime, the court awarded them death sentence today.

Following the historic verdict of the court, the family members said that justice has been done to Ram Chandra Behera.
