Junior Assistant WESCO Utility awarded 1 year jail and fine in Odisha Vigilance case

A Junior Assistant in WESCO Utility as been awarded one year imprisonment and fines in an Odisha Vigilance case, said reports on Saturday. 

Kantabanji: A Junior Assistant in WESCO Utility as been awarded one year imprisonment and fines in an Odisha Vigilance case, said reports on Saturday.

The Junior Assistant (Retired), in the office of SDO, WESCO Utility, Kantabanji in Bolangir district identified as Manoranjan Nanda has been awarded imprisonment.

Nanda was chargesheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No.56 dtd.26.07.2017 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant.

The bribe was sought for preparation of revised electricity bill and its processing in his favour, he was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs. 5,000/-.

Further in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of P.C. Act, 1988. The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and fine of Rs.5,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988.

Both the sentences are to run concurrently. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Manoranjan Nanda, Junior Assistant (Retired) following his conviction.
