Jumbo tramples man to death in Dhenkanal

Kamakhyanagar: Adding to the unending episode of wild elephant attack in the State, a jumbo trampled a man to death in Gadapalasuni village under Mahabir Road Forest Range in Dhenkanal district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Narayan Nayak of the same locality.

Narayan had been to a field located on the outskirts of his village to attend nature’s call when the pachyderm attack took place. A jumbo which had sneaked into the area from the nearby forest in search of food lifted the victim with its trunk and threw away before trampling.

Family members of the victim rescued him from the spot later in the night and rushed to Kamakhyanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment under critical condition. He died under treatment.

Forest officials have rushed to the village to drive the jumbo away from human habitat to prevent more attacks.
