Illegal arms racket busted in Sambalpur, 3 rifles seized, 4 held

Sambalpur: Tightening the noose around the necks of illegal firearm traders in the district ahead of polls, police last night busted a gun manufacturing racket in Rengali area and arrested at least four persons from the spot.

The held accused have been identified as Sudhir Luha and Durga Thapa of Chauladhipa, Bisab Mirdha  of Pardeshipali and Arjun Naik of Likera villages of the same district.

As per the report, a police team led by Rengali IIC got a tip-off on the illegal firearm trade last night while conducting precautionary patrolling ahead of the upcoming polls. After conducting a raid the IIC and his team arrested the trio and seized three country-made rifles-one each from Sudhir, Bisab and Arjun. Another half-made rifles was seized from Durga later.

All the arrestees will be forwarded to court soon and further investigation has been  order into the incident, informed Bhabani Shankar Udgata, Sambalpur SDPO.
