Herd of 47 elephants spotted in Karanjia, panic among villagers

Residents of Karanjia are having sleepless nights as a herd of 47 elephants have strayed into the villages from the nearby jungle

Karanjia: Residents of Karanjia are having sleepless nights as a herd of 47 elephants have strayed into the villages from the nearby jungle.

The herd is wreaking havoc by destroying crops and breaking into houses and there is villagers are in panic state in more than 100 villages. The herd is roaming in different parts of Karanjia.

One person sustained injuries while the villagers were trying to drive away the pachyderms at Thakurmunda range last night. It is also alleged that there is power cut for hours due to the elephants. The villagers are in perpetual fear and they are keeping a watch by lighting up fire in front of their houses.

The forest officials are trying to shoo away the elephants from the range area.
