Heavy rain to lash Odisha from tomorrow; IMD issues yellow alert

The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain alert in many parts of Odisha on Sunday.

Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain alert in many parts of Odisha on Sunday. The regional center earlier predicted that a low pressure area is likely formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts on July 4.  Due to the low pressure, the state will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in upcoming days.

The IMD has issued yellow warning for districts including Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Kandhamal. At the same time, districts of South Coastal Odisha, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, and at a few places over the rest districts of Odisha are likely to experience light to moderate thundershower on Sunday.

On Monday, districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Kandhamal have received yellow warning for heavy rain.

After the IMD issued the heavy to very heavy rainfall alert in Odisha, the State government has urged the people to avoid movements as far as possible. People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike.

The people also have been advised to check for traffic congestion on their routes before leaving for their destinations and keep in mind the position of manholes and uncovered electric wire while walking outside.
