A garment showroom in Nayagarh of Odisha caught fire and property worth Rs. 2 crores was gutted on Monday. 

Nayagarh: A garment showroom in Nayagarh of Odisha caught fire and property worth Rs. 2 crores was gutted on Monday.

According to reports, fire broke out at Shree Shayam Garment showroom on Khadpada road in Nayagarh district.

Late last night it is suspected that the showroom had caught fire. It is worth mentioning that four fire tenders and more than 30 firemen were engaged in extinguishing the fire.

Information of the owner whose property worth more than Rs. 2 crore was burnt. Fire is suspected to have happened due to short circuit.

As usual yesterday at 10:00 pm the shop owner and staff closed the shop and went home. At around 3 o’clock in the night, local people saw smoke coming out of the shop and informed the owner. Later, the fire brigade reached the spot after receiving the information.

However, since the shop was completely closed it became difficult to douse the fire. Four fire engines and more than 30 firemen from Nayagarh, Nuagaon, Khadpada were engaged in fighting the fire.

It took more than four hours to douse the fire due to the large size of the showroom and heavy smoke coming out from inside. Even the shop had to be demolished with the help of a JCB to put out the fire.

The fire officer said that the cause of the fire will be known later, while the owner of the shop said that it is believed to have started due to a short circuit from the ceiling.
