Dreaded criminal injured in police encounter in Puri district
A dreaded criminal was injured in a police encounter in Odisha’s Puri district on Monday. The criminal has been identified as Santu alias Santosh Barik.
Puri: A dreaded criminal was injured in a police encounter in Odisha’s Puri district on Monday. The criminal has been identified as Santu alias Santosh Barik.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of cops reportedly conducted a raid in Girala forest area on Puri- Brahmagiri road to nab Santu. However, the criminal fired bullets at the cops and tried to flee from the spot.
An ASI and a Sub-Inspector were injured in the firing. In retaliation, police also opened fire at him.
Santu received bullet injuries on his right leg due to which he could not escape. Soon, police nabbed him and seized a gun and two rounds of bullets from his possessions. He was rushed to the Puri District Headquarter Hospital for treatment.
Santu was on the run after firing at a woman over some dispute following an accident. He had reportedly barged into the house of one Subal Sahu with a gun and fired at his daughter-in-law Jhili Sahu on November 29.
Two criminal cases have been filed against him at Brahmagiri police station, said sources at the police.
