Commissionerate police holds Durga puja preparation meeting, emphasis on liquor free visarjan

Cuttack: The twin city Commissionerate Police is gearing up for the much-awaited Durga Puja celebrations in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

This year, efforts are being made for a liquor-free visarjan (immersion of idols) of Durga idols in Cuttack city, said reliable sources.

The proposal to make the visarjan alcohol-free has been made in the Durga Puja preparation meeting of the Police Commissionerate. It has been agreed by the various puja committees across Cuttack city and the Mahanagar Shanti Committee.

Discussions have been held to observe Durga Puja and visarjan in a peaceful manner. This year, 32 silver tableau will grace the historic city of Cuttack.

Commissionerate Police will continue a special drive for crime and tension free worship and darshan, said reports.

A close watch will be kept on criminals, thier activities will be monitered by special Commissionerate police teams. Police vans will keep a 24*7 vigil on drunkards. Criminals dealing in drugs and guns will be strictly monitored. The puja is slated to start from October 20 and the visarjan festival will be held on the October 25.

The Cuttack (CMC) Mayor Subas Singh, MLA Souvic Biswal, Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi, Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra, Cuttack Mahanagar Puja Committee, Mahanagar Shanti Committee senior workers, members and officers of various police stations were present in the Durga Puja preparation meeting held at Sharla Bhawan in Cuttack.
