Burglary in temple; ornaments worth lakhs stolen, idols defaced

templeKhurda: Tension ran high in Taladiha village under Tangi tehsil today morning after Rajapratishthita Mahaveer temple was founded burgled with eyes of Lord Mahaveer and Lord Raghunath idols gouged out by looters.

An unusual situation prevailed in the temple premise after the loot, as locals claimed that the gouged out eyes of Lord Mahaveer idol was bleeding.

Some locals first spotted the temple gate locks broken and found idols defaced early this morning. They immediately took the matter to the notice of temple priest Jayant Samantray and called up Tangi Police. After reaching the spot and taking a stock of the situation at the temple, the priest found at least three main locks in its premise broken with hoondi (donation box) looted. He also found Lord Mahaveer’s god crown, necklace and several other precious jewelleries stolen along with eyes gouged out. Similarly, gold crowns and necklaces of Lord Sriram, Laxaman and Goddess Sita were also found missing from the temple premise.

Tangi Police have reached the spot and started investigation into the loot. They have also launched a massive manhunt to trace the burglars.
