Bhubaneswar based journalist arrested for fraud of Rs.1 crore

Bhubaneswar: The EOW has arrested Surjit Kumar Dhal a Bhubaneswar based journalist on an allegation of fraud, said reliable reports on Saturday. The journalist was a resident of Jymkhana Palm Height Apartment near SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

He will be produced before the designated Court under OPID, Cuttack today i.e. on 06.01.2024. The case was registered on the written allegation of Kalinga Keshari Rath having real estate business against the accused Surjit Kumar Dhal, owner of local web news portal and a newspaper.

The journalist has been arrested for cheating of Rs.1 Cr. by using forged documents and also extorting/cheating money impersonating as an influential person having big contacts.

As found, the accused Surjit Dhal who happens to be the owner of local web news portal and newspaper by giving the impression to the informant that he is a rich person in the field of media and also impersonating as influential person with big contacts and forging many documents like fake BDA approval etc.

He induced the informant to pay him around Rs.1 Cr. that was paid through account and in cash. After knowing about the fraudulence committed by the accused, the informant asked him to repay the amount taken and the cars. The victim informant was also threatened by accused that using his influence he will destroy his business/ interests. The investigation of the case is on.
