6 arrested with leopard and python skins in Kalahandi

As many as six persons were arrested today following seizure of a leopard skin and a python skins from their possessions in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.

Kalahandi: As many as six persons were arrested today following seizure of a leopard skin and a python skins from their possessions in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.

According to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kalahandi South Forest Division, Kalaivanan R, a joint anti-poaching operation by officials of Kalahandi South Forest Division and Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve (USTR) of Chhattisgarh conducted a raid in Ampani ghat area based on the a specific input and arrested five accused persons. A leopard skin was seized from their possessions.

Later, based on their information, another joint operation was conducted in the Jaipatna area during which a poacher was arrested with the skin of a python.  A country-made gun, and wire snares used for trapping animals were also seized from him

The DFO said that two of the arrested accused area from Kalahandi while the other four belong to Nabarangpur district.

Cases have been registered against them and further probe is underway.
