26 labourers rescued from Bolangir of Odisha, 2 brokers detained

At least 26 bonded labourers have been rescued from Bolangir district of Odisha on Thursday, said reliable reports.

Bolangir: At least 26 bonded labourers have been rescued from Bolangir district of Odisha on Thursday, said reliable reports. The police have also detained two brokers in this connection.

According to reports late last night, the Kantbanji police of Bolangir district rescued 26 workers while they were being transported to another state.

It is found after investigation that their residence is in Godabhanga block in Sambalpur district Dhankuda and Lathor village of Balangir district under Lathor police station.

Reportedly, they were allegedly rescued while they were being prepared to be illegally trafficked to to work as bonded labourers in the neighbouring state.

The locals spotted the labourers and immediately informed the police in the Bolangir station.  The police immediately reached the spot and rescued the workers.

There were 12 men, five children and nine women among the rescued labourers. The Kantbanji police has detained two brokers and are interrogating them.

The police rescued all the labourers and took them to the police station. Police have made arrangements to send the rescued labourers to their homes.
