Tripura businessman helps surgeons at operation theatre, probe ordered after video went viral

Agartala: A video of a businessman helping two orthopedic surgeons during surgical procedures of patients at the operation theatre in Tripura hospital is going viral over the internet. After the video went viral, the state’s health department has ordered a probe into the matter.

In the viral video, the businessman is seen wearing a surgeon’s apron and helping two orthopaedic surgeons during surgical procedures of patients at the operation theatre of Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital. The incident is said to be of January 19.

The businessman, identified as Jantu Debnath, is a supplier of implant materials for orthopaedic patients.

Following the incident, Dr Supriya Mallik, the Director of Health Services, told PTI, “Based on the footage, a four-member committee headed by Joint Director of Health Services, Dr Souvik Debbarma, will probe into the incident thoroughly and submit its findings within a week.”

Dr Mallik also said that action will be taken if the incident proves to be true, adding that a businessman cannot join the surgical procedures at a government hospital.

Meanwhile, the medical superintendent of IGM Hospital, Dr Debashri Debbarma have claimed that Jantu Debanth was not present nor helped the orthopaedic surgeons during surgical procedures at the operation theatre.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Similarly, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Friday terminated a doctor from service, who got his pre-wedding photo-shoot done inside an operation theatre at the government hospital in Chitradurga district. Abhishek, a doctor attached to the Bharamasagara Government Hospital, had recently got his pre-wedding photo shoot done inside the operation theatre of the hospital.

The photos went viral on social media, drawing flak from the public.
