Cyclone ‘Michaung’ likely to make landfall today near Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla

Cyclone 'Michaung' will make landfall in Nellore and Machalipatnam near Bapatla in the east today in the form of a severe cyclonic storm.

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone ‘Michaung’ has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm. It continues to remain active over West-central adjoining the South Western Bay of Bengal. The system is moving at a speed of 7 km per hour. Currently, it is centered 20 km north-north-east of Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore, 170 km North of Chennai, 150 km South of Bapatla and 210 km South-South West of Machalipatnam.

The storm is facing the Southern Andhra coast from the northern direction. It will make landfall in Nellore and Machalipatnam near Bapatla in the east today. Cyclone ‘Michaung’ will cross the land in the form of a severe cyclonic storm.

At that time, the wind speed will be 90 to 100 km per hour. The wind speed may increase to 110 kmph. At the time of landfall, there is a possibility of tides rising up to one and a half meters in the sea. The sea will remain very turbulent throughout.

The fishermen have been prohibited from venturing into the sea till tomorrow. A red warning has been issued for South Andhra along with North coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal for very heavy rainfall today. Some places are likely to experience heavy rainfall of above 204.4 mm.

the cyclone ‘Michaung’ has already started impacting the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. Several areas across coastal Andhra Pradesh have started experiencing heavy rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert to several disticts of Andhra Pradesh in view of excessive rainfall today. These places include Nellore, Tirupati, Krishna, Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada.
