  1. Red Alert sounded for Odisha as low pressure over the Bay of Bengal intensifies

In view of the further intensification of a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for Odisha on July 1. The MeT Department has predicted, increase in rainfall across Odisha starting from yesterday i.e. Saturday taking into account the fact that, the low pressure is intensifying and slowly moving towards the west. It has also caused a monsoon trap line on the upper part of the atmosphere.

  1. Separated Conjoined Twins Jaga & Kalia To Return To Odisha Soon

Separated conjoined twins, Jaga and Kalia, who underwent a rare successful cranial separation surgery at the Neurosciences Centre of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi in October 2017 will soon be returning to Odisha. This was informed by the National Health Mission (NHM) Odisha MD Shalini Pandit on Saturday after talking to doctors at the Hospital.

  1. Prime accused in Aska Congress MLA candidate murder arrested

In Congress Aska MLA candidate Manoj Jena murder case investigation, the prime accused Bhagwan Sahu was nabbed on Saturday. A team of Baidyanathpur arrested Sahu after conducting a raid on his hideout in Ganjam district.

  1. Man Shoots Video Of Rape Of His Wife In Odisha

The victim alleged that the cousin brother of her husband raped her in an intoxicated condition. “Both of them were under the influence of alcohol when he raped me. My husband instead of protesting him recorded the incident on his mobile phone,” alleged the woman.

  1. 15 dead in wall collapse in Pune after heavy rain

Fifteen people have died after the collapse of a compound wall on Saturday. The compound wall belonged to a residential building and it could have collapsed due to heavy rain. Many more are suspected to be trapped within the wall collapse debris. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire services are undertaking the rescue operation.

  1. Modi Govt Cuts Off Advertisements To 3 Indian Newspaper Groups

The Narendra Modi-led Union government has cut off advertisements to at least three major newspaper groups, in a move that executives and an opposition leader term as retaliation for unfavourable reports. The newspaper groups are the Times Group, the ABP Group, which publishes The Telegraph, and The Hindu newspaper.

  1. Mumbai Rains: Waterlogged Streets, Traffic Woes Paralyse City

Three persons were killed and five injured in rain-related incidents on Friday in Mumbai, which was lashed by the first spell of heavy rains this monsoon. Heavy showers continued on Saturday morning as Mumbaikars woke up to waterlogged streets, choked drains and traffic woes-bringing the city to a standstill. Three persons died of electric shocks, while two others were injured in two separate incidents in the western suburbs, a spokesperson of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

  1. Dutee Chand Named Flag-bearer of Indian Contingent

Major news headlines for today is, Dutee Chand, a student of KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, will lead the Indian contingent at the 30th World University Games 2019 scheduled to kick-off in Napoli, Italy from July 3. Chand has also been named India’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony as the top achiever of the entire Indian contingent, informed Dr Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS at a press meet in Bhubaneswar on 29th June. Dutee, a double silver medallist at the 2018 Asian Games, is the only girl from Odisha representing India at the World University Games. This is a matter of pride for Odisha and KIIT, Dr Samanta added.

  1. G20 Summit: Ivanka Hails Trump-Modi Talks; Calls India ‘A Critical Ally’

White House advisor and Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, has called the meeting between the US President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “productive conversation.” Ivanka also said India is a “critical ally” of the United States. “We are here at the G20 in Osaka and Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Abe just concluded a meeting with the President talking about 5G technology, particularly with a focus on its security implication,” said Ivanka Trump, in a video tweeted by the White House.
