Red Alert sounded for Odisha as low pressure over Bay of Bengal intensifies

Keonjhar: In view of the further intensification of a low pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for Odisha on July 1.

The MeT Department has predicted, increase in rainfall across Odisha starting from today taking into account the fact that, the low pressure is intensifying and slowly moving towards the west. It has also caused a monsoon trap line on the upper part of atmosphere.

As a result of heavy rain which is expected to lash the State till July 3, the IMD has alerted the Odisha Government to take adequate measures for a possible flood triggered by heavy rainfall on the upper catchment areas of Mahanadi.

As a precautionary measure fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the disturbed sea till July 3 to avoid any kind of eventuality.
