Saree Cancer: reasons, precautions and solutions

Saree cancer is like the name suggests, origins from saree, the wearing that is mostly donned by women in India. As per reports, Saree cancer is about 1 percent of all the cancers found in women in our country.

What is Saree Cancer

Saree cancer mostly affects the waist portion of women. While many women wear saree in India, they need to tie it around their waist. More than that they are also required to wear an inner skirt called petticoat. A cotton string is attached to the petticoat that a woman ties tightly around her waist. And then she wears the saree over this.

Reasons

The petticoat string puts a continuous pressure to a certain part of the waist where exactly it is tied. In many cases it also becomes tough for women to keep it clean and hygienic. Moreover, if they spend time in hot and humid atmosphere, the probability of cancer becomes more.

Gradually the exact portion of the waist where the chord of the petticoat is tied, starts peeling, pigmenting and putting a black line on the waist. This is the beginning stage of Saree Cancer. If then, proper precaution and steps are not taken for prevention, it aggravates and turns into saree cancer.

Solution and management

The first thing that can be done to get rid of saree cancer is loosening the petticoat. It will put less pressure on the waistline and simultaneously keep the woman safe from saree cancer.

Secondly, the woman can change the usual rope-like string to broader belt type string which will reduce pressure on a certain area by spreading the pressure to a broader portion of the waist.

The third formula is to change the level of the waist where the petticoat is tied. That means, if in the morning a woman ties the petticoat near the navel, in the evening when she changes the saree, she should tie the chord of the petticoat slightly below where she had tied in the morning.

Besides, these above three, keeping oneself hygienic and always wearing a clean petticoat and saree will be helpful to keep the saree cancer away.

Also, one should try to avoid hot places where there is more chances of sweating.
