‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ Lyricist Dev Kohli passes away at 80

Dev Kohli wrote songs for more than 100 hit films, like 'Maine Pyar Kiya', 'Baazigar', 'Shoot Out At Lokhandwala', and many others.

Veteran lyricist Dev Kohli passed away at the age of 80 on August 26. His final journey will be marked by an “antim darshan” at his residence, Jupiter Apartment, 4th Cross Lane, Lokhandwala Complex, Mumbai, starting at 2 p.m. Subsequently, his last rites will be conducted at 6 p.m. at the Oshiwara Crematorium in Jogeshwari West.

Dev Kohli’s lyrical talents graced over 100 hit films, leaving an indelible mark in the world of music. His contributions include iconic songs from movies like ‘Maine Pyar Kiya,’ ‘Baazigar,’ ‘Judwaa 2,’ ‘Musafir,’ ‘Shoot Out At Lokhandwala,’ and ‘Taxi Num 911,’ among many others. He collaborated with renowned music directors such as Anu Malik, Raam Laxman, Anand Raaj Anand, Anand Milind, and more.

One of his popular compositions, ‘Geet Gaata Hoon Main,’ featured in the 1971 film ‘Lal Patthar,’ starring Rajkumar and Hema Malini. This song marked his second venture as a lyricist. Dev Kohli’s repertoire includes numerous hit tracks like ‘Maaye Ni Maaye,’ ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen,’ ‘Geet Gaata Hoon,’ ‘O Saki Saki,’ and many more, which continue to resonate with music enthusiasts.

Notable figures from the Bollywood fraternity, including his close associates like Anand Raaj Anand, Anu Malik, Uttam Singh, and others, will gather to pay their last respects to the accomplished lyricist.
