Hyundai, Kia EVs suffer charging issues, 1.7 lakh vehicles recalled in South Korea
The automobile giants, Hyundai and Kia Corp have recalled for approximately 1.7 lakh electric vehicles (EVs) in South Korea over issues with the charging control unit. The recalled vehicles are believed to have a software issue that is needed to be rectified.
As per reports, the recall aims to rectify potential issues that could affect the powering of low-voltage batteries and possibly result in vehicle shutdowns while driving. This recalling procedure is scheduled to be done starting from today (March 18).
According to South Korea’s transport ministry, Hyundai will recall 113,916 EVs, impacting various models including those from the Ioniq-series and Genesis lineup, while, Kia is set to recall 56,016 EVs.
The identified error is said to be within the software of the integrated charging control units. Such faults can result in difficulties in powering the low-voltage battery, raising concerns about potential vehicle stoppages during operation.
This is not the first time when such a thing happened. Earlier in June 2023, NHTSA had set undertaken an investigation in the US for power loss in Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 electric SUV. About 30 complaints were filed regarding partial or complete loss of propulsive power. Following this nearly 39,500 vehicles were said to be affected.
Meanwhile, there are reports of Kia launching two new cars in India this year and this will include the new Carnival as well as the EV9 flagship electric SUV. While the new-generation of the Carnival is expected to offer some changes over its predecessor, the EV9 will be the first seven-seater electric SUV offered by the company.
The new generation of the Kia Carnival has been launched in the global market and it is time to make its entry into India.
