WhatsApp number of OCAC CEO hacked: Nigerian national arrested

Bhubaneswar: In a development regarding the OCAC CEO and additional secretary of the state Electronics and Information Technology (E&IT) department Manoj Kumar Pattnaik’s WhatsApp number hacking case, Delhi police has arrested a Nigerian national from New Delhi, informed Odisha Additional Director General (ADG) Crime Branch Sanjeeb Panda. He has been identified as Maurice.

Reportedly, he has been arrested from a rented house in Delhi following which several related information have been extracted from him regarding similar cyber crimes. Maurice was already declared as most wanted by Delhi police.

The arrested accused Maurice has link to another Nigerian hackers in Bangalore. It is learnt that the Nigerian national cyber criminals initially hacked another official’s WhatsApp account followed by Pattnaik’s account. The cyber criminals operate their illegal hacking system basically from Bangalore and Delhi.

The Nigerian hacker of Bangalore has been declared as most wanted for both Odisha and Delhi officials.

It is pertinent to mention that a similar incident of cyber crime took place in New Delhi on November 1 where the Nigerian fraudsters used to send malicious links following which they were able to take over that WhatsApp control of the particular user. The main accused in this case, identified as Chimelan Emaluen Anuetalu, was arrested earlier. He was allegedly the mastermind behind all such cyber crimes.

Odisha Crime Branch is in constant touch with Delhi and Bangalore police teams in order to crack down the cyber crime, added ADG Sanjeeb Panda.
