Selling Of “Pani Puri” Prohibited In Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu: As cholera cases have increased in the Kathmandu Valley and 12 people have tested positive, the sale of pani puris has been outlawed in Lalitpur Metropolitan City.

After discovering cholera bacteria in the water used to make Pani Puri, the Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) on Saturday decided to ban its sale and distribution throughout the city.

In order to prevent the spread of cholera in the Valley, the metropolis has taken internal measures, according to Municipal Police Chief Sitaram Hachethu, to ban the sale of panipuri in congested locations and in corridor regions.

Chumanlal Dash, director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Health Ministry, reports that there have been five cases of cholera found in the Kathmandu Metropolis and one case each in Chandragiri and Budhanilkantha Municipalities.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, seven additional people have tested positive for cholera in the Kathmandu Valley, bringing the total number of cholera patients there to 12.

Further, the Ministry of Health and Population has asked the public to seek prompt medical attention at the closest hospital if they exhibit any cholera symptoms and has urged everyone to exercise caution and alertness since diarrhoea, cholera, and other water-borne illnesses are on the rise, particularly during the summer and wet months.

The Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital in Teku is actively treating the infected.
