WhatsApp might launch a ‘View Once’ mode for voice notes soon

WhatsApp is reportedly going to roll out a 'view once' feature for voice notes to enable users to send self-destructing voice notes.

Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp is reportedly going to roll out a ‘view once’ feature for voice notes. According to WABetaInfo, the ‘view once’ feature is currently available for beta users. With the new privacy feature, users can send self-destructing voice notes to send messages on WhatsApp to keep their chats more secure. Voice notes sent in the view Once mode cannot be replayed, saved, or shared.

Note that WhatsApp currently allows users to select the ‘view once’ option only when sharing images and videos with their contacts in the app. The photos and videos send with view once activated will automatically vanish after it has been opened by the receiver.

The feature is available for select Android and iOS beta testers using WhatsApp beta through the Google Play Store and the TestFlight app, respectively. WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.15 and 2.23.22.4, while on iOS, WhatsApp beta 23.21.1.73 updates have the ‘view once’ mode for audio messages.

The feature is under testing and is expected to be available to more users in the near future.  The ‘view once’ icon will be placed within the voice message chat interface. If users want to use the feature then they just need to tap the icon while sending the voice note message.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also planning to roll out a password-less passkey feature for Android users. Passkeys provide an alternative to traditional passwords by utilizing the authentication methods present on your device. Announcing the feature, the company wrote on X, “Android users can easily and securely log back in with passkeys. Only your face, fingerprint, or pin unlocks your WhatsApp account.”

The feature is currently being tested in WhatsApp’s Beta and will arrive for general Android users soon. There is no information about it’s arrival for iOS users yet.

The company has disclosed that Android support for passkeys will be introduced gradually over the upcoming weeks and months.
