State Bank of India (SBI) issues advisory for its users to create a strong password

State Bank of India (SBI) is one of the major nationalized banks of India and perhaps has the majority of customers in the country. In view of the major cybercrimes happening in the country, the bank has issued a notice for the well-being of its customers.

The bank has advised its customers to use proper passwords in their account, so that they will not fall prey to fraudsters. A strong password ensures higher levels of security, said the bank in its tweet.

The bank has also shared 8 important ways for its users to create an unbreakable password which will protect them from cybercrime.

Some important ways to keep a strong password are as follows:

  • Use a combination of both uppercase and lowercase letters e.g. aBjsE7uG
  • Make use of both numbers and symbols e.g. AbjsE7uG61!@
  • Users should make use a minimum of 8 characters to ensure adequate security. e.g. aBjsE7uG
  • Avoid the use of common dictionary words e.g. itislocked or thisismypassword
  • Do not use memorable keyboard paths like “qwerty’’ or “asdfg”. Instead, play with your keyboard and add emoticons.
  • Do not keep obvious passwords like 12345678 or abcdefg. Guessing these password combinations will take only few minutes for a fraudster.
  • Do not use easy-to-guess substitutions like DOORBELL- DOOR8377.
  • Keep your password long and do not connect it with your family/ birth date etc. e.g. Ramesh@1967

Following the above mentioned steps will allow you to keep a unique and strong password. It will also be very helpful for you during your transactions. Hence, follow the steps by SBI and create a strong password.
