Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled the company’s next-generation mixed reality headset called the Quest 3 at a starting price of $499. The announcement comes just days ahead of Apple’s expected release of AR headset into the market.

The Quest 3 sports a sleek design and is 40 percent thinner than its predecessor. CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the announcement of the mixed reality headset via Instagram, in which he revealed that the headset will feature color mixed reality, a fusion of augmented and virtual reality, promising users an immersive visual experience.

It will be powered by the new Qualcomm chipset. This will enable the Headset to deliver twice the graphics performance compared to it’s predecessor. This will be good for gamers and will enable more advanced applications.

The other specifications of the Quest 3 includes three front-facing cameras. This means the headset will provide improved pass-through experiences where users can see the real world while wearing the headset. This feature enhances the interaction with virtual content and provides wearers with enhanced depth perception.

According to Zuckerberg, more details about the Quest 3 will be revealed at Meta’s annual AR/VR conference, which will be held on September 27. The conference is expected to provide a deeper dive into the headset’s features, specifications, and potential partnerships.
