Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro launched with Tensor G3, new ultrawide cameras; Check price and all other details

Google has finally launched the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro with Tensor G3 chipset at a starting price of Rs 75,999. The device are available for pre-order.

Google has finally launched the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro at a starting price of Rs 75,999. Both smartphones are claimed to be the company’s most beautiful phones yet. Both devices feature a Tensor G3 chipset along with new ultrawide cameras.

Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro

Design

Both Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro come with slight design changes in comparison to their predecessors Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The two new Google phones have rounded edges and softer silhouettes along with new finishes.

Pixel 8 Pro sports a polished aluminium frame with a matte back glass. Pixel 8 has a satin metal frame and polished back glass. As per Google, both phones are made with recycled materials.

Display

The Pixel 8 is now 10g lighter and a bit smaller than its predecessor. It features a smaller 6.2-inch FHD+ display with a higher 2,000 nits peak brightness and a 120hz refresh rate (it can joggle between 60Hz and 120Hz). It has Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

The Pixel 8 Pro has a 6.7-inch QHD+ LTPO OLED display with a brighter 2,400 nits peak brightness and 120Hz refresh rate. It has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on top.

Processor

Powering the Pixel 8 Series is a 64 bit Tensor G3 chipset, which is a 9-core processor with a single Cortex-X3 prime core, four Cortex-A715 cores, and another four Cortex-A510. The Pixel 8 packs up to 8 GB of RAM, while the Pro model has up to 12GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage.

Camera and features

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro feature powerful, upgraded camera systems for stunning photo and video quality, plus game-changing editing tools.

The Pixel 8 Pro sports three cameras on the back housing a 50MP Octa-PD (phase-detect autofocus) wide shooter with OIS, a new 48MP Quad-PD ultrawide sensor, and a 48MP Quad-PD 5x zoom camera with up to 30X Super-Res digital zoom. It has a new 10.5MP unit shooter with a wide field of view at the front for selfies.

Camera features

The camera features on the new Pixel 8 series include Night Sight, Photo Unblur, Magic Eraser, Best Take, and Macro Focus (which uses the ultrawide). The Pixel 8 Pro has the new Pro Controls feature.

The ‘Audio Magic Eraser’ can be used to remove annoying sounds from videos, similar to the way the original Magic Eraser feature can clean up the backgrounds of photos.

Another camera features is the Magic Editor in Google Photos that is a new experimental editing experience that uses generative AI to help users bring their  photos in line with the essence of the moment you were trying to capture.

Temperature measuring sensor

The Pixel 8 Pro has got a new skin temperature sensor next to the cameras. The sensor is reportedly a Melexis MLX90632 unit. It will reportedly read temperature of objects.

Object Temperature Sensing will be available in the Thermometer App on Pixel 8 Pro. It will allow users to quickly take the temperature of an object by simply scanning it. The sensor works best between -20 C to 150 C (-5F to 302F), and it will support temperatures up to 200C (392F).

“Object temperatures may vary based on proximity to higher/lower ends of the temperature range, material selection, size of the object, and the difference in temperature between the sensor and the object,” according to Google.

Video Boost

As per Google, Pixel 8 Pro will get Video Boost later this year. This will pair Tensor G3 with Google’s powerful data centres to apply cutting-edge processing to videos.

Call Screen with AI

With improved AI, Call Screen will help users receive 50 per cent fewer spam calls on average.

Battery

The Pixel 8 Pro packs a 5,050mAh battery with 30W wired charging and 23W wireless charging. Both Pixel 8 phones are IP68 water and dust-tight and feature fingerprint and face unlock.

Software update

Both the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro run Android 14 and will be getting with seven years of OS, security, and Feature Drop updates.

Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro price, availability

The Google Pixel 8 is priced at Rs 75,999 and the Pixel 8 Pro is priced at Rs 106,999. Both phones can bought eith bank offers up to Rs 9,000. The Pixel 8 comes in Hazel, Obsidian, or Rose. The Pixel 8 Pro is available in two colour options-Bay and Obsidian.

The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be available for sale in the US, Canada, Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, UK, Australia, India, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan at the Google store and and retail partners on October 11.

The pre-order for both the device are ongoing. Google will offer a free Pixel Watch 2 on the pre-order of a Pixel 8 Pro.
